When the American government has reduced thousands of displaced Black families in New Orleans to living in trailers all the while the same city’s gay pride celebration, Southern Decadence, can shell out the dough to bring in Charles Knipp’s to perform his character Shirley Q. Liquor blocks from where they sleep, we’ve got a problem, a big one. 

Help us send a message to the organizers of Southern Decadence in New Orleans that New Orleans is no place for blackface performances like Shirley Q. Liquor.

San Jose Gay Pride - June 14-15, 2008

Gay Pride celebrations are no place for blackface performances.  Charles Knipp has listed San Jose Gay Pride Week as one of his upcoming scheduled performances.  Join us in sending a clear message to the pride organizers that Shirley Q. Liquor is an inappropriate act to book.  We want assurance from the Pride organizers that they will not be booking Charles Knipp to perform Shirley Q. Liquor and will work to make sure that no other nightclub or public venue does so.

*Please note that Knipp listed San Jose Pride Week as one of his upcoming performances.  Knipp has performed in San Jose before.  As we stated above, we are calling on the organizers of San Jose Gay Pride to publicly state that they are not booking him and that they will work with us to find out where in San Jose he's booked.  If he's booked to perform in a public venue during gay pride week, as the leaders of San Jose's gay pride celebration they should be able to carry some weight within the gay community to help get the booking canceled.  It is no secret that Knipp is frequently booked to perform at gay prides and nightclubs.  Here's the information that Knipp himself posted on his website about the booking. 

EXXXOTICA Miami Beach - April 17-18, 2008

Charles Knipp (Shirley Q. Liquor) is scheduled to perform Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th in Miami Beach, Florida at EXXXOTICA ~ Miami Beach.  EXXOTICA is billed as the largest adult themed consumer show on the East Coast and is sponsored part by Hustler and Playboy Radio. Knipp’s performance is scheduled to take place in Hall C of the Miami Beach Convention Center located at 1901 Convention Center Drive.

Jeffrey Handy is Co-Owner of Victory Tradeshow Management and creator of EXXXOTICA.  According to a press release issued on January 14th by his company, “You can catch a very special performance by the "QUEEN" of Comedy, the one and only SHIRLEY Q. LIQUOR, described by Rolling Stone Magazine as “a living taboo.”
